In 1919, Construction, a monthly journal, published a series of Karl Kautsky's The Economic Doctrines of Karl Marx (Zibenlun Jieshuo) co-translated by some Kuo-min-tang officials led by Tai Chi-t'ao. In 1927, Shanghai Minzhi Book Company published Kautsky's The Economic Doctrines of Karl Marx revised by Tai Chi-t'ao and Hu Hanmin in its whole translation version. This process on one side formed another route of the early dissemination of Marx's Capital in China which drew little attention; on the other side, it constituted the changing course of the Kuo-min-tang officials' view on Marxism from appreciation and adoption to query and opposition. The translation and introduction of The Economic Doctrines of Karl Marx made the Kuo-min-tang officials able to know more about Marxism and drawn into the materialist conception of history, by which they analyzed the past, present and future, explored the law of social development. They applied some viewpoints and the methodology of Capital in revealing Capitalism, investigating the Chinese working class and its conditions. Although they thought positively about socialism to be the prospect of human society, socialism did not have a certain mode in their minds.
