Those influential modern Chinese scholars of aesthetics have unanimously turned to Taoist philosophy for their theoretical foundations through interpretations of the Taoist classics. As a rich traditional resource for modern China’s aesthetic construction, Taoist thoughts are also in the foreground, acting as a “Transmission Agent” in receiving and introducing western aesthetic theories. They are the “Image Ambassadors” for Chinese aesthetics on the world stage. Six aesthetic masters from mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and overseas, including Wang Guowei, Zhu Guangqian, Zong Baihua, Xu Fuguan, Wai-lim Yip, Li Zehou, have received tremendous inspiration from Taoist philosophy.
