The distribution, composition, characters and nature of historical materials in this period have been explored so as to summarize the norms and rules in the collection and collation of historical materials for building up a system of the science of historical materials for China's journalism and communication history in the era of Big Data. Such relatively complete historical materials enable more monographic studies to cover the shortage of existing studies, thus promoting the cross-disciplinary studies into the journalism history of the People's Republic of China and the history of the Communist Party of China. The study into the “17-year-period of journalism and publicity” takes into account both opinions of the history and the present time.
