The initiative of the Qing Government to adopt consular protection to develop education for overseas Chinese in Southeast Asia was a typical example. To enhance the Chinese cultural identity of overseas Chinese, improve the ecology of overseas Chinese education and continue the feudal rule, the consuls in Southeast Asia were committed to promoting the prosperity of overseas Chinese education. Through these efforts, consular protection has made outstanding contributions, including improving the education ecology and cultural self-confidence of overseas Chinese in Southeast Asia, enriching the connotation of the modern Chinese consular protection mechanism and laying foundations for the development of China's consular protection system. However, this action was also destined to fail for its feudal backwardness.
