These prefaces recorded the different ways in which they came into contact with popular fictions, the various ways in which they socialized through popular fictions, the leading role they played in screening, revising, and publishing popular fiction, and the specific processes by which they took the initiative to search for early editions of popular fiction and to explore the basic scholarly issues of popular fictions.
