Under the active promotion of the Chinese associations, the Malaysian Chinese Association was established in 1949. It was originally a civil society or welfare organization to protect the rights and interests of the Chinese. After being reorganized into a political party in 1952, the relationship with the Chinese associations began to become more complicated. The MCA has actively promoted the overseas Chinese people's fight for citizenship right from the beginning, while the Chinese associations are indifferent to the issue of citizenship before slowly paying attention to it. At the same time, the MCA and the Chinese associations have the same goal in promoting the civil rights movement, but they have failed to cooperate effectively. Although there are differences between the MCA and the Chinese associations in fighting for the status of Chinese education, they have cooperated closely. Regarding the issue of the official Chinese language, there are obvious differences between the MCA and the Chinese associations, but in the end, both sides have reached a compromise.
